Rolex Day-Date 1803 'Rose Gold, Arabic Hindi & Tropical Gilt Dial'

$260,000

Fitted with Arabic Hindi numerals and Arabic day and date discs, this masterpiece reflects a direct dialogue between Swiss craftsmanship and regional identity.

In the late 1950s, Rolex began to cement the Day-Date’s role as the ultimate statement of prestige. This 1959 reference 1803 is a remarkable example of that legacy, and one deeply tied to the cultural heritage of the Middle East. Sourced locally together with a trusted partner of ours, it combines a rarely seen configuration in rose gold with a dial execution of exceptional character.

The Magic of a Tropical Gilt Dial
The character of this watch is defined by its tropical dial. Once a glossy gilt surface, it has aged gracefully into a deep chocolate brown, enriched with warm caramel undertones that radiate beautifully around the day aperture and centre. The brown dial, enriched with beige undertones, forms an irresistibly warm canvas. The gilt printing, rose gold Arabic Hindi numerals, and elegant leaf hands radiate a rich glow, merging in a luminous, warmly inviting composition.

Together, these details make this 1803 a wonderful counterpart to our equally rare rose gold 1807 with tropical gilt dial: both watches are evidence of how Rolex shaped the Day-Date to resonate with the tastes of distinguished collectors.

Condition
The dial is the watch’s most captivating, yet fragile, feature. This example is in immaculate condition, free from blemishes, and beautifully preserved. With all lume plots intact, beautifully and evenly aged, their creamy tone goes perfectly with the warm brown and caramel hues of the dial.

The rose gold case remains well preserved, its condition consistent with the beautifully kept dial. Over the years, the watch has likely seen a polish, yet considering its age, everything presents itself in a fair and honest state. Clearly enjoyed and appreciated, but never subjected to heavy wear, it has retained both its character and charm. The bezel remains sharp, showcasing the finer fluting typical of early executions, as opposed to the broader motif seen in later models. Completing the configuration is the original rose gold Jubilee bracelet, bearing the large Rolex logo clasp and crown, and presenting itself in fair condition for its age. Naturally, light signs of wear are present, which is a perfectly normal testament to nearly seven decades of history.

This rare 1803 not only preserves its integrity after more than sixty years, but also offers collectors a genuine slice of Middle Eastern horological history.
