This Piaget, reference 9771 D2, is a quintessential piece from the maison’s golden years, a period spanning the 1960s to the 1980s when the mainson mastered the rare art of blending haute horology with haute joaillerie. This particular example embodies the signature “Piaget look”: an ultra-thin profile, an abnormal cushion-shaped case in 18k white gold, and an intricate fusion of precious materials. The dial is made out of Falcon Eye and the case measures 30mm in diameter. This piece of jewellery on the wrist runs on the manual wind caliber 9P2 sits on a stunning mesh bracelet. Nothing quite beats a 4-digit Day-Date in yellow gold. Let alone one with a red, cherry colored, Stella dial. During the 1970s and 1980s Rolex offered brightly colored lacquered dials, nicknamed ‘stella’ by Italian collectors, as an option for the Day-Date. This option wasn’t particularly popular. After all, you had to be a gentleman (or lady) of considerable means to be able to afford a Day-Date and it was unlikely that a person of that stature would rock a gold watch with such a loud, dare we say gaudy, dial. As a result, stella dial Day-Dates are very collectible nowadays. This red colored dial on this ref. 1803 changes colors in every light and and is in perfect harmony with its 18k yellow gold applied indices. It has no cracks, hairlines or scratches, but it does have some light bubbling here and there, which is barely visible. The watch comes in the classic Day-Date packaging: a 36 mm 18k yellow gold case with matching fluted bezel and an 18k yellow gold President bracelet. The watch houses Rolex’ caliber 1570 self-winding movement. The watch is in great condition, with a sharp case and tight President bracelet.

Rolex Day-Date 1803 'Red Stella'

"This wrist watch is for the man whose interests go beyond the horizon." That's what the Patek Philippe advertisement for this watch noted back in the day. By back in the day, we're referring to the early twentieth century. A period of globalisation, the world becoming more connected and the start of World War II. Patek Philippe felt the need to produce a watch that allowed the wearer to read the local time as well as the time in multiple other parts of the world. The Swiss watch brand didn't do it solely. They partnered with Louis Cottier, who invented this complication style. A rotating bezel with 24 cities engraved - later series even have 42 cities - and a 24-hour ring with applied sun and moon icons to indicate noon or midnight. All powered by the manual-winding caliber 12-120 HU (Heure Universelle). It is the first serially-produced World Time and has been in production for 17 years starting in 1937. This is quite long. However, bear in mind that only a handful were made each year. Resulting in a total number of 82 yellow gold, 32 rose gold and a single platinum example. So far, only the half has surfaced the market of which the biggest part is in poor condition. We are very proud to add this excellent example to our collection! It is carried out in 18k yellow gold. The three-piece case is strong. The tear drop shaped lugs are round and full and give this watch just a bunch of class and elegance. The ribbed bezel is in sharp condition and clearly displays the 24 enamelled city names in French. The diameter is only 31 mm, but the 1415 perfectly shows that less is more. It has the most common, yet very pleasing dial configuration; an ivory tone with applied baton markers and Roman quarters. Also, notice the characteristic hour hand with the large circle and the faceted minute hand perfectly matching the romantic icons of the sun and moon. This 1415 dates back to 1946 and was sold in 1949 according to the Extract from the Archives. It first popped up in 2013, when it was auctioned in New York. The stylish, Italian - that's a pleonasm - gentleman who bought it, paired it with its gorgeous yellow gold Gay Frères bracelet. As Patek Philippe stated in the same advertisement mentioned in the introduction: "In effect it is twenty-four watches in one – for around its face is a sliding rim that tell at a turn the time in the major cities of the world’s twenty-four time belts."

Patek Philippe World Time 1415

This reference 1803 is beautiful in every sense of the word. However, la crème de la crème is the beautiful blue sigma dial complimented with brilliant-cut diamonds with baguettes on the 6 and 9 o'clock. It is an anomaly for this watch to bear hands with lume as the dial is non-luminescent. This Rolex Day-Date dates back to 1969 and is powered by calibre 1556. We can't stress enough, the impeccable condition this case is in as it remains unpolished. We are crazy about the four-digit Day-Date references and we particularly like them when they come as vintage as possible. The classic characteristics we love are the pie pan dial and the plexi crystal. Rolex Day-Date 1803 'Blue Sunburst'

There’s one grand complication to rule them all, the perpetual calendar chronograph, and Patek Philippe is the king when it comes to making them. The reference 3970 was introduced in 1986 as the successor to the legendary and ultra-collectible reference 2499 perpetual calendar chronograph. This ref. 3970EP (E = étanche, which means waterproof in French; P = platinum) dates back to 1996. The watch features a 36 mm 950 platinum case with lovely pump pushers and a sapphire see-through case back through which the exquisitely hand finished manual-winding movement can be viewed. The beautiful opaline silver dial sports pointed stick indexes and matching pointed stick hands. Two apertures at the 12 o’clock position reveal the day and month mechanism. The dial features three sub-dials. The recessed sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position displays a running seconds as well as a 24-hour hand while the recessed sub-dial at the 3-hour position incorporates a 30-minute chronograph counter and a leap year indicator. Finally on the lower sub-dial we find a charming moon phase indicator, which is surrounded by a date complication. The watch comes on a black alligator leather strap with a platinum Patek Philippe deployant clasp and an Extract From The Archives.

Patek Philippe Grand Complications 3970EP

A very clean and sharp Rolex Day-Date reference 1803 from 1969. This watch has a 'no lume' dial, which means that - despite the T Swiss T signing below the 6-hour position - the dial and hands don't contain tritium. Back in the day, many Asian countries had import restriction regarding luminescent material (since it's slightly radioactive). This example was made for the Japanese market, as is evidenced by its bracelet which bears a 'Made in Japan' signature in the clasp. Because many countries had heavy import taxes on gold, Rolex often chose to produce the cases and movements in Switzerland but the bracelets locally.

Rolex Day-Date 1803 'No Lume Japan'

Rolex Day-Date 1804 from 1970 in white gold with factory set diamond dial and bezel. Most notable on this watch of course is the dial. This lacquered "pie-pan", referred to as "Stella-dial", has a truly unique colour. These uncommon dials are very sought-after by the seasoned collectors and this bright red to orange execution is extremely rare. By the looks of it you can already guess it was purchased by a special gentleman, almost 50 years ago. This is not an everyday watch and this reflects in the immaculate condition; strong case with thick lugs plus virtually stretch-free President bracelet.

Rolex Day-Date 1804 'Red Stella'

From a collector's perspective we can definitely call this the Sultan of Daytona's. With only three pieces that have surfaced the market so far, this is one of the rarest Daytona's out there. Made in the year 1974 as a special order for his majesty the late Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, the Sultan of Oman, the dial bears his inscription. From the three known, one remains in one of the most prominent Rolex collections in the world, one got auctioned by Christies in 2013 (for a whopping $825,000) and this is the third one. The watch comes with the presentation box that bears the Oman national emblem.
